IRCC is changing how refugee claims are made in Canada. A new Refugee Claim Application process takes effect on November 3, 2026.
What you need to know:
– The new process starts November 3, 2026
– Claims started through the IRCC Portal must be submitted by November 2 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
– Information in unfinished claims will be retained through the transition
– Claims already submitted by the cutoff are not affected
If you are partway through a claim in the portal, do not leave it to the last evening — submit before the November 2 deadline so the transition does not disrupt your case.
