AIP – Employer Requirement

Atlantic Provinces

Employer Requirements For AIP

AIP or Atlantic Immigration Program can be classified as a special immigration program for the employers of the Atlantic region of Canada namely Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and even Newfoundland and Labrador.

This program allows employers from these regions to recruit foreign individuals if they are not able to fill any role locally. With this program, designated employers can hire and retain skilled foreign nationals as per their requirements.

Employer Requirements For AIP

How AIP Works?

The best part of this program is that the employers do not need to apply for Labour Market Impact Assessment to the ESDC before hiring the foreign nationals.

Once the recruitment process is completed and a job offer letter is provided to the foreign worker, the employer must connect with the recruit to develop a settlement plan for them in Canada. The employers generally connect the recruits with a settlement service agency to assess the situation of the foreign nationals and develop a settlement plan for them.

As an employer, certain responsibilities need to be fulfilled:-

  • In the application form, the employer sections should be properly fulfilled.
  • In case of any change in the employment status, the employers are required to inform the provincial authority. Change in employment status such as promotion, termination, extended leave, or even shutting down of the business should be informed

Furthermore, the employer must also aid the applicant and their family for the long term so that they can have a hassle-free integration into the Canadian way of life.

Employer Responsibilities

Any employer in Canada looking to hire foreign individuals with the Atlantic Immigration Pilot is required to earn the status of a designated employer.

Requirements for becoming a designated employer:-

  • The business or organization should be in a good standing condition.
  • Provide information on the labor needs.
  • Work on providing settlement facilities with a service provider.
  • Must demonstrate failed attempts to find Canadian citizens or permanent residents as eligible candidates for the job.
  • Should provide a job offer in a full-time non-seasonal position.
  • Must submit a settlement plan that has been co-signed by the worker.
  • Must show interest in hiring international workers in a full-time non-seasonal position.
  • Must adhere to the reporting requirements outlined in the pilot
