Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) – Your Pathway to Canadian Permanent Residency

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is one of the key streams under Canada’s Express Entry system, designed to help skilled tradespersons gain Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada. This program opens doors for qualified foreign workers with relevant trade experience who wish to build their future in Canada.

As part of the Express Entry system, candidates are selected through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on their skills, work experience, and ability to contribute to the Canadian economy. Individuals with practical expertise in skilled trades can apply for PR under this program, provided they intend to live outside the province of Quebec.

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, applicants must:

  • Have at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last five years.

  • Possess valid certification that permits them to work or practice their trade in their country of residence.

  • Present a Canadian employment connection, such as:

    • A valid full-time job offer from a Canadian employer for a minimum of 12 months, or

    • A certificate of qualification in their trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

With the help of an experienced Express Entry consultant, applicants can ensure their profile is optimized and meets all eligibility criteria for the FSTP.
